Field guide

How to play

Five rounds a day. Each round shows three strange statements. Two are true, with sources. One was invented. Find the fake. There's no timer.

1. Read Three statements. Take your time. One of them was made up.
2. Pick and lock in Tap the fake, then Lock in answer. Your first answer is final. Optional 🔮 I'm sure: +150 if right / −50 if wrong.
3. Reveal and share See what was true, why the fake is fake, and the sources. After round 5, share a spoiler-free grid.

Example: two real animal facts and one invented one. Pick the invented one, then read how you could have spotted it.

Scoring and the 🔮 rule

Before you lock in, you can switch on 🔮 I'm sure. It adds extra points if you're right, and subtracts if you're wrong.

Wrong and sure−50💥

The most you can score is 750. Your total never drops below 0. Your title depends on how many you got right:

  • 0–1: Easily Fooled
  • 2: Mildly Suspicious
  • 3: Skeptic
  • 4: Truth Sniffer
  • 5: Super Intelligence
Daily reset, streaks and sharing

A new puzzle starts at midnight in your time zone. Your streak grows when you finish the day's puzzle on that day. Miss a day and it starts again from 1. Streaks are kept in this browser only.

The answers page for each day opens once that day is over everywhere on Earth (12:00 UTC the next day), so no one sees spoilers while they're still playing.

Your share grid shows only whether each round went right or wrong. It never shows which card was the fake, so sharing won't spoil it for friends. There's also a plain-text version for screen readers.

How we check the facts

  • Every true statement links to a reputable source with a sentence that supports it. Numbers and dates are checked against a second source.
  • Fakes are invented for the game, drafted with help from an AI assistant and edited by a person. They're written to be harmless if believed: never about real people, brands, health, safety, law or money.
  • We search each fake before publishing, so it isn't accidentally true.
  • A human checks every puzzle and every source link before it goes live.
